Compositions

I Love Sarah Jane - Post Viral Apocalypse Scene
Original footage is promoted to float color space, linearized, and then stabilized with two points. Primatte was used to create the matte. Blue (sky) spill suppression was limited to the narrow region around the horizon in order to maintain the tonal characteristics of the foreground.
The telephone lines tend to get keyed out because of their fine details. Rather than roto key them on the original plate, a colorized set of blurred and faded roto shapes are added to the scene.
Simple rotos where used to switchmatte scene elements into the background plate. The alpha of the boys was used as a mask.
Smoke was added using a colorized fractal noise that was masked and animated.
The extreme foreground fence pole and wire was created using a masked still image and composited wire fence. Extreme foreground was produced by blurring both images.
All elements were place in 3D space with a Multiplane node. The camera was animated to push in and rotate down slightly. The smoke was also animated to give it dynamics in the scene.
